Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully we can answer many of your questions here, but if not, no worries. Feel free to send us an email or give us a call and we will answer anything we can for you.

  • Short answer: YES!

Long answer: Rarely does someone come in that can’t benefit from pelvic floor therapy.

You can also check out this list of diagnoses we treat to see if your symptoms/diagnoses are listed.

  • Most importantly, congratulations! Internal exams are deferred for the first 6 weeks, but we often like to start therapy around the 4 week mark to jump start your recovery (vaginal or cesarean). Pelvic floor PT can help with any leaking, constipation, and pain that you may be having immediately postpartum.

On that same note, it’s NEVER too late. Even if you are months or years postpartum, give us a call or fill out our form to get started!

  • Yes! Even if your baby didn’t come through the pelvic floor, your body still went through a lot during pregnancy. And if you labored or pushed before your C-section, your pelvic floor was definitely still part of the process.

No matter how you delivered, we focus on helping you rebuild core and hip strength and ease those new aches and pains that come with caring for a tiny human.

During a C-section, about seven layers of tissue are cut or separated — which means there’s scar tissue that needs attention. Whether your C-section was last month or years ago, we can work on scar mobility, comfort, and getting you feeling like yourself again.

  • Once you’re booked, you’ll receive two emails to help you get started.

The first is a “Welcome to Mid-Missouri Pelvic Health” email with helpful info like how to find us, where to park, and a short welcome video from Dr. Jen.

The second email includes a link to your online intake paperwork. Filling this out ahead of time lets Dr. Jen review your information so we can dive right in during your first visit.

On the day of your appointment:
You’ll be in a private treatment room for your session, and you’re welcome to bring someone with you if that makes you more comfortable. Dr. Jen will review your medical history and current symptoms, perform a functional movement exam, and—if appropriate and with your consent—an internal pelvic floor assessment (vaginal or rectal) to see how your pelvic floor muscles are functioning.

You’ll also discuss your goals for therapy, get all your questions answered, and leave with a clear plan that includes what we’ll do in the clinic and what you can start working on at home.

We know these topics can feel sensitive, and that’s completely okay. Your comfort is always the priority. Dr. Jen will talk through every step and make sure you feel in control—because it’s your body, your comfort, and your choice.

  • Everyone’s body and goals are different, so the number of visits can vary from person to person. During your first appointment, we’ll go over your evaluation findings, talk about your goals, and come up with a personalized plan that fits your needs.

On average, most patients come for 6–10 visits, and many start noticing improvement within just a few sessions.

Keep in mind — symptoms that have been around for years often take a little longer to fully resolve.

Even after symptoms are gone, many of our patients choose to keep coming periodically. These visits help them stay strong, address any new issues before they become problems, and enjoy the benefits of ongoing manual therapy or dry needling for pelvic wellness and maintenance.

  • Mid-Missouri Pelvic Health is an out of network clinic. Each session is paid for at the time of service via debit/credit card, HSA (health savings account) card, cash, or check. We can provide you with a “superbill” to self-submit to your insurance for reimbursement. All services provided by Mid-Missouri Pelvic Health are covered under out-of-network physical therapy benefits; however, insurance companies dictate reimbursement, not us.

  • No. Medicare does not have out of network benefits. Medicare Replacement/Advantage Plans, typically follow the same rules as Medicare.

  • No. Missouri has Direct Access.

Click here to learn more about it. We will need to send your physical therapy plan of care to a qualified healthcare provider (physician, midwife, nurse practitioner, or chiropractor) to obtain a signature within 30 days of your evaluation. Please have the name of a provider to whom we can send your plan of care.

  • Yes! Being on your period, no matter how heavy, does not impact our ability to evaluate or treat you. It can actually be helpful to see how your body and symptoms change throughout your menstrual cycle, including on your period.

Ultimately, this is 100% up to you and your comfort level.

  • YES! Mid-Missouri Pelvic Health welcomes all pelvises. If you have pelvic floor dysfunction, Jen wants to help you. Just let us know how you prefer to be addressed, which pronouns you prefer, and what your goals for therapy are.
